Well, We are off to a start. Our first two brave souls decided they would like to learn some programming. They are both interested in web which I suppose is indicative of how well the web is being perceived as a platform.

So watch this spot. Soon will be launching our web 101 lessons.

Welcome to South African Coderz.

This site was created to hopefully meet one of the pressing demands in this country right now.

High unemployment and the large gap between the number of job seekers and small number of positions currently available.

This is a problem which is not going to go away soon as the entire world is currently in the grip of massive unrest, global shortages, political change, recession and highest ever unemployment figures.

The IT field, especially programming and especially the area of computer gaming, which  by the way is the fastest growing industry in the world and is on the brink of overtaking the entertainment industry in terms of gross turnover,  is one area where it actually is possible to create more work.

Most importantly, it is not only able to create more work for programmers but actually  possible to create more businesses. These in turn employ more people, not only programmers but also ancillary
staff, such as sales people, human resources, project managers and even tea ladies!

Just to finally convince you of the ability of IT to bring about massive changes. Here are photographs of the two headquaters of two of the biggest leaders in the gaming space at the moment.

BlizzarBlizzard Entertainment, makers of the popular game World of Warcraft, employs 2,700 people - mostly in Irvine, CA.

Not bad for a business started with  3 people.

Electronic Arts

BioWare was established in February 1995 by Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip

EA recently bought out Bioware. Once again not bad for 3 guys and 1 idea.

After your brain has relaxed, head on over to "About This Site" and see what we want to accomplish.
Ok. If games are really not your thing, look at this promotional video recently released by Microsoft.

It's a promotional video showing their vision of how technology could look in the future based on work their current research labs are doing. BTW I think some of this is not that much scifi, I've seen some of the stuff they have already developed on the smart screen desk touch technology, it's just as awesome.

Here is the link. If you are not UTTERLY blown away as I was then perhaps IT is not the field for you.

Personally I was amazed and proud to be working in an industy that will be able to affect peoples lives in such a dramatic fashion.
